Explore what we offer

The Law Office of Michael D. Caccavo handles a variety of legal matters. We pride ourselves on personal service and if there are matters which we can’t help you with, we’ll gladly recommend another attorney who can. The areas we concentrate on are:

We can assist with all of your estate planning needs. We prepare Wills and Trusts, can arrange smaller estates so you can pass your property without the need for Probate or at least minimize the Probate estate. We can also create plans for those who have concerns about Estate taxes or loved ones with Special Needs.

There are two main types of Probate: "probate" or "estate" for when someone passes away, and "guardianship" for when someone needs help managing their affairs while still alive. We have lots of experience with both and can guide you through the process, which can often be tricky.

Many people worry about ending up in a nursing home and spending all their money on care, leaving nothing for their family. We can help you understand Medicaid and create plans to protect your assets and qualify for Medicaid faster. While we can’t guarantee you won’t need a nursing home, we can help ease some of your financial worries.

If you're buying or selling a home or commercial property, you need a skilled attorney. We’ve been working on real estate matters for over 40 years. We can help with Purchase and Sale agreements, Deeds, options, private notes, mortgages, and other documents. We usually represent Sellers, but sometimes help Buyers too. Please note, we don’t handle lender closings.

A key part of any Estate plan is preparing for the chance of becoming disabled. We can set up Durable Powers of Attorney, Advance Health Care Directives, and Trusts to manage your affairs if you’re unable to, so you won’t need a Guardianship. We can also help with planning for loved ones with disabilities, including their benefits and how to protect them.

Attorney Michael D. Caccavo has been practicing in Barre, Vermont since 1978.

After graduating from Spaulding High School, Michael received a B.A. from Tufts University in 1975 and his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School in 1978. He was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1978 and the U.S. District Court for the district of Vermont in 1979.

Michael began his career as an associate at Richard E. Davis and Associates in Barre and in 1979 opened his own general practice office. Since 1997, his practice has focused primarily on Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning, Probate work, and Real Estate matters.

Michael grew up in Barre, Vermont and graduated from Spaulding High School. He now lives with his wife Diane in Marshfield, Vermont. He is the current town moderator for Marshfield and has previously served on the town’s Budget Committee, Planning Commission, and was a Town Selectman for nine years.

He loves to sail and enjoys a good book, but his favorite way to spend is time is with his family. Michael has two sons (Nick and Tony) and three grandchildren, who know him best as “Grampy” or “Bampy.”

Attorney Anthony D. Caccavo (Tony) grew up in Marshfield, Vermont, where he attended Twinfield Union School. He received a B.A. from Tufts University in 2008 and an M.A.T. from Tufts in 2009. Tony received his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University in 2022 and has been practicing in Vermont since 2023.

Before pursuing law, Tony was a teacher. A job that included stints at his alma mater Twinfield Union School; St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA; Athens, Greece; Nanjing, China; and most recently at Milton High School in Milton, Vermont.

Growing up, Tony gained a greater appreciation for the impact laws and the legal system can have on individuals and their families, which is why he chose to change careers. He was particularly drawn to estate planning for its practical and direct benefits for clients.

Currently, Tony lives in Derry, Northern Ireland with his wife Rachel, their son Rory, and Lola (their dog). He loves to view the world through a camera, getting lost in a good story, listening to live music, and being on (or in) the water.
